It’s cheesy as hell, but I go to work at my job as an administrative assistant the next day like I’m walking on cloud nine. Not even my terrible supervisor can wipe the smile off my face. I keep remembering the rest of my date with Bishop.

We cleaned up, and he showed me the rest of his shop. It’s clear he’s takes pride in what he does, as he should. After last night, I can certainly appreciate his dedication to excellence. Oh man, I’m so twitterpated, I’m making terrible jokes in my head...and laughing at them!

But I can’t help it. The rest of the evening went like a dream. It could have been uncomfortable, and instead it just felt right. He ordered some pizza and we spent some time brainstorming ideas for my tattoo. Even then, I still might have felt awkward except he was constantly calling me “Sugar,” in that silky voice of his. Not to mention the touches, lying his hand on my arm or touching his thigh to mine.

I never felt unwelcome or weird. In fact, I’d never felt safer. It was almost better than the sex... almost. It’s hard to compete with a mind-blowing orgasm, but for someone with a history of being emotionally abused, safety and trust feel like another sort of heaven.

We didn’t have time to get the tattoo, but he texted me this morning that he’s working on the artwork, and it should be ready later this week.

I clock out and head home, ready to change into my pjs and have a glass of wine with Evie. I hop in my car and turn on some happy music. Each time I glance in the rearview mirror, I’m startled by the twinkle in my eyes. I’m basically dancing in my seat by the time I turn onto our street.

Only to deflate when I see a familiar car parked in our driveway—my mother has come to visit.
